GS win for Kelly and Claire

GS win for Kelly and Claire

Kelly and Claire have arrived home safely after spending August training and racing in New Zealand.

They had been training with the British Disabled Ski Team for three weeks in Mount Hutt and Mount Dobson. In the final week, the team travelled to Queenstown to race in the WinterGamesNZ.

Three events were scheduled at Coronet Peak: Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super G. Unfortunately the speed event,  Super G was cancelled due to high winds.

Kelly and Claire got a taste of success when they came first in the GS race. In the first run, they were positioned second but managed to put in a quick second run which placed them first overall. This was Kelly’s first IPCAS race and their first outing skiing as a team.

The next day, Kelly failed to finish the second run in the Slalom event, although skiing with confidence and vigour, she unfortunately straddled a gate.

New Zealand has proven to be an excellent start to Kelly’s international skiing career.  Kelly and Claire return to Northern Ireland and Scotland respectively before they team up again for pre-season training in Hintertux, Austria in November.
