Team celebration in Edinburgh

February 8, 2010

Kelly and Claire as selected athletes chosen to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the X Winter Paralympic Games in Whistler, Canada this March, gathered with their team mates from the British Disabled Ski Team, and Wheelchair Curling Team in Edinburgh for a team celebration.

The weekend long celebrations were hosted by ParalympicsGB. The girls received the majority of their official Paralympics kit and took part in a series of media interviews in anticipation of their debut at the Winter Paralympics.

ParalympicsGB hosted a dinner in Edinburgh Castle. The Wheelchair Curlers and Skiers were treated to  a wonderful talk from Jamie Andrew, they mingled with representatives from ParalympicsGB sponsors and were congratulated on their success to date by both ParalympicsGB Chief Executive Phil Lane and Chairman Tim Reddish (three time Paralympian and Performance Director of British Disability Swimming)

Before returning home, Kelly, Claire and other team members attended the 6 nations match between France and Scotland. Sadly Scotland were beaten by France in the Rugby however the wheelchair curling and alpine skiing teams’ appetite for their forthcoming competition could not be dampened by Scotland’s defeat.
