Vancouver 2010 Winter Paralympic Games- Girls come 4th in Giant Slalom

March 16, 2010

Again, if you were unable to catch the girls live on www.paralympicsport.tv or Eurosport then you’ll be pleased to hear that Kelly and Claire have placed 4th in the Giant Slalom event at Whistler Creekside this afternoon.

The weather was a big disappointment for the Girls. With heavy rain, it was difficult for Kelly or Claire to keep their goggles dry or mist free and this marred many of the VI girls’ performances, particularly in the first runs.

Kelly and Claire achieved 8th position after the first run but came from behind in the second to produce a very respectable result of 4th overall. Their second run was the third fastest in the field however this was not enough to secure a medal, Henretta Farkasove (SVK) taking gold, Sabine Gasteiger (AUT) securing silver and Canada’s Viviane Forest taking bronze. Kelly has however shown some promising skiing that with more race experience will produce better results at this level.

This is the end of the Girls’ racing time together and they’ve been overjoyed with their performance.

It’s now for the girls to enjoy their time left in Whistler. They plan to enjoy free skiing with their families and friends and take in some of the other events that their team mates are competing in during the week.

The Girls spoke to BBC’s commentator, Graham Bell after their second run –
