IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships – Preview

January 13, 2011

Kelly and Charlotte have traveled with other qualified members of the British Disabled Ski Team to Sestriere, Italy to compete in the IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships.

The girls will be competing in Giant Slalom and Slalom on the 20th and 22nd respectively. Kelly and Charlotte hope to improve on their performance from the Europa Cup races before Christmas, Kelly says, “We felt we skied well and got some exciting results in Kuethai, so I’d be delighted if we kept that consistency here”.

All alpine skiing events at the 2006 Winter Olympics and Paralympics took place in the resort of Sestriere, and world cup races regularly take place on the hill. However this will be the first time the girls have competed on the slope.

While many Nation’s racers competed in the only World Cup event of the season in Arta Therma, Italy this week, the British Disabled Ski Team has had a holding camp in the nearby French resort of Serre Chevailer. The camp has been a chance for athletes to consolidate their technique and build confidence before the season peak of the World Championships.
